About

Hello there!

My name is Sarah, and for as long as I can recall, I’ve been baking.

Me, age 3, making cookies.

Growing up, my mom was always baking something – for us, for friends, for extended family, for holidays, for dinner parties, for after-school snacks … No matter the occasion, watching her bake, helping her and enjoying the finished product gave me a sense of comfort. My favorite part of the year were the weeks leading up to her annual dessert party, which attracted about 50 guests during the holidays. From choosing the recipes to organizing cookies, cakes, breads and candies on plates and stands, I soaked it all in.

A couple years back, my mom hosted her last dessert party, 30 years after she started. Now, I’ve moved out of my parents’ house and gotten married, and hope to keep the tradition going. Baking is still a huge part of my life. One of my favorite holiday activities, when I have a break from classes, is baking for days on end – then inviting friends and family over to help me clear out my fridge. Sometimes, I bake just for myself, for the experience that brings back memories of growing up, the enjoyment of something warm out of the oven when I’ve had a bad day.

Over the years, I’ve collected and mastered a number of family recipes. Yet I have many more to try, as my online collection of recipes has grown to over 600. Every new recipe is a learning experience; some are great successes, some require a few tweaks, and some – let’s be honest here – are complete disasters that you know will be stuck to the bottom of your oven for eternity. This learning experience is part of the process of baking, and I have started this blog to share my experiences with you in the hopes that you can learn from my mistakes and victories, too.
